The ice plant, known as "the plant of life," is one of the plants we grow in our fields in La Gacilly, France. In the store, it is featured in the Wrinkle Smoothing Lifting Serum from the Lift Pro-Collagène line at a 4% concentration, combined with botanical collagen and naturally derived hyaluronic acid in a formula that softens the appearance of wrinkles on all skin types.

What is the ice plant

The ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum), which we also call sea fig in our records, is a succulent with fleshy leaves. It is called the ice plant because its leaves and stems are covered in shimmering droplets that resemble frost. On the INCI list, it is listed as "Mesembryanthemum Crystallinum Extract (Ice Plant)."

For us, it is an extraordinary example of botanical resilience. The plant forms vesicles filled with active molecules, such as osmolytes and antioxidant enzymes, which ensure its metabolic activity; we call these vesicles its "youth reservoir." Osmolytes are small molecules that plants in saline or dry soils accumulate to prevent water loss; hence the cosmetic interest in their ability to retain moisture.

What to expect and what not to: a serum can soften the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin feel. It does not replace sunscreen, which remains the most effective way to slow down visible aging, especially with the sun at 2,600 meters.

Where it comes from: the fields of La Gacilly

The ice plant is one of the nine iconic plants we grow on our 60 hectares of organic fields in La Gacilly, Brittany. The others are cornflower, calendula, peppermint, German chamomile, Roman chamomile, edulis, nasturtium, and arnica. We grow it there using agroecology.

Agroecology, as we understand it, is an agricultural model that seeks to regenerate soil and biodiversity. We share where these plants come from in the Yves Rocher botanical garden.

The Wrinkle Smoothing Lifting Serum

The Wrinkle Smoothing Lifting Serum is the product where the ice plant takes center stage. It contains 4% ice plant, along with a complex of botanical collagen and naturally derived hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a humectant: it retains water on the skin's surface, and better-hydrated skin reflects light more evenly and shows fewer fine lines.

It is suitable for all skin types, has a micro-pearly gel texture, and received the CLARA Award for Best Natural Cosmetic in 2024.

We published three results from three different types of tests, and they are worth reading separately:

  • -32% deep wrinkles in 4 weeks: clinical evaluation on 15 cases.
  • Wrinkles immediately smoothed: objective clinical study on 21 cases. An immediate effect usually comes from hydration and the film the formula leaves behind.
  • 87% confirm their skin is smoother: satisfaction test on 109 cases over 28 days. This is what people reported, not a measurement.

The two clinical figures come from small groups of 15 and 21 people. The list of ingredients also includes Roman chamomile floral water, another plant from La Gacilly.

The night ritual

The Anti-Wrinkle Night Facial Ritual brings together the serum with the Purifying Cleansing Gel, the Anti-Wrinkle Night Cream, and a case. It serves to have the complete routine in one purchase.

How to use the ice plant serum

Apply morning and night to the entire face, before your cream:

  1. Cleanse your face.
  2. Pump 1 or 2 times onto your fingertips.
  3. Apply by pressing gently so it penetrates.
  4. Finish with a cream from the Lift Pro-Collagène range, which reinforces efficacy.

Give it at least the 4 weeks of the study before drawing conclusions. Other care products for an anti-aging routine can be found in the anti-aging collection.
