What makes Yves Rocher different?

Yves Rocher cultivates plants in its own fields that it then incorporates into its formulas. Since 1979, the French brand has been a botanist, harvester, manufacturer, and distributor all in one, and its fields in La Gacilly, Brittany, have been certified organic since 1999. The active ingredients in its products are 100% plant-derived, and its skincare products contain more than 93% ingredients of natural origin. This complete chain, from seed to bottle, is what sets it apart.

What "botanical cosmetics" means

A cosmetic formula has two parts. The active ingredients are the components that do the work: hydrating, soothing tightness, providing radiance. The rest is the vehicle that carries them to the skin and gives the product its texture: water, oils, emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives. That is why Yves Rocher provides two different figures. The active ingredients are 100% plant-derived; in skincare products, the total content of ingredients is over 93% of natural origin.

The way an active ingredient is extracted from the plant also counts. The brand's dermo-botanical approach is based on four principles:

  • Bio-inspiration: studying the structure, physiology, and way plants adapt to create formulas that respect the skin's balance.
  • Eco-extraction: 100% natural extraction processes that respect the integrity of the active ingredients.
  • High naturalness: highly pure plant-based active ingredients with low environmental impact.
  • 100% tested products: skin tolerance and efficacy are evaluated, without animal testing. The brand stopped testing on animals in 1989.

From field to bottle

Managing the entire chain, without intermediaries, allows the brand to control every step of manufacturing and trace its plants from the field to your skin. In La Gacilly, you will find the fields, the botanical garden, the workshop where botanical waters are distilled, and the production centers, which are classified as LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) refuges.

The fields are worked using an agroecological approach, a model that seeks to regenerate soil and biodiversity. Plants such as cornflower, calendula, chamomile, mint, nasturtium, arnica, and ice plant grow there, among others. In 2021, these iconic plants obtained UEBT (Union for Ethical BioTrade) certification, which guarantees sourcing that respects people and biodiversity. According to the brand, Yves Rocher was the first French brand to obtain it.

A botanical garden as a laboratory

In 1975, Mr. Yves Rocher created the La Gacilly Botanical Garden, an open-air laboratory where the brand's experts conserve and study plant species. The garden is a member of BGCI (Botanic Gardens Conservation International), an international network for exchanging knowledge about plants. This work yields the active ingredients that are then tested in formulas.

How it started: 1959, La Gacilly

Yves Rocher was born in La Gacilly. At 14, after his father's death, he found refuge in the forest and realized that nature has a positive effect on our well-being. In his attic, he prepared a cream based on lesser celandine, and with it, the brand's botanical cosmetics began.

In 1959, he created the brand and its first cosmetic line, "beauty through plants," which he sold by mail order. This way, he reached customers all over France directly, without intermediaries, with accessible products committed to nature. The complete timeline is in our history.

Measurable commitments and the Yves Rocher Foundation

At the end of 2019, the Rocher Group became the first international group to adopt the status of an "entreprise à mission" (purpose-driven company) under French law. Its stated purpose is to reconnect people with nature.

The brand implements this through act beautiful, a program of 10 commitments with goals for 2030. Some examples:

  • Bottles made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic since 2020 (except for caps and dispensers).
  • A solid cosmetics line with zero plastic waste and fully recyclable eco-refills.
  • More than 150 botanical supply sources certified by external bodies.

The Yves Rocher Foundation was born in 1991, chaired by Jacques Rocher, the founder's son. According to the Foundation, it has planted 135 million trees around the world and, through its Terre de Femmes award, has recognized nearly 500 women committed to the planet in 50 countries.

The details are in our commitments and our certificates.

Prices

Selling without intermediaries has been the way to keep prices accessible since 1959. In the Colombia store, as of September 25, 2026, there were 135 full-size products available, with regular prices (no promotions) ranging from $24,900 to $320,000. Half cost $85,000 or less, and 40 of them cost $50,000 or less.
