Chamomile, also called camomile, appears in our skincare products that seek to provide comfort for the skin. The after-shave balm and the face and beard treatment contain it as organic chamomile, and the chamomile antiperspirant is enriched with organic chamomile from La Gacilly. Many of our facial creams also include chamomile flower water in their formula.
Two plants with one name
Manzanilla and camomila (both translated as chamomile) are two similar plants, both from the daisy family, with small flowers featuring yellow centers and white petals. German chamomile appears on INCI lists as Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria), and Roman chamomile as Anthemis Nobilis.
In cosmetics, they are widely used as "flower water": the water remaining after steam distilling the flowers. This water carries a small portion of the plant's aromatic compounds, which is why it provides more freshness and scent than a measurable effect on its own. It is a comfort ingredient, and should be understood as such. If your skin burns, flakes, or becomes red for days, consult a dermatologist before trying another cream.
Where Yves Rocher's chamomile comes from
Both chamomiles are among the nine iconic plants we cultivate in our 60 hectares of organic fields in La Gacilly, Brittany (France). On our botanical expertise page, we explain that the wild chamomile, along with calendula and cornflower, holds AB and UEBT (Union for Ethical BioTrade) certifications, and is grown using agroecological methods.
Our history tells us that in La Gacilly, the plants are distilled in a botanical water workshop. The site is located in the Yves Rocher botanical garden.
Among our current products, the one that explicitly states its chamomile comes from there is the 48H Chamomile Antiperspirant: it refers to "Organic Chamomile from Gacilly."
Men's care and shaving
Shaving removes a fine layer of the skin's surface along with the hair, which is why it burns or feels tight afterward. Our men's line uses chamomile in two products for that moment.
The After Shave Balm contains organic chamomile and 96% ingredients of natural origin. It immediately soothes and hydrates the skin with a balm texture that is neither greasy nor sticky. This data comes from a satisfaction test: 22 men with sensitive skin used it for 4 weeks, and 100% felt their skin was more comfortable. This is a perception declared by a small group.
The Face and Beard Treatment is a light gel with organic chamomile and 97% ingredients of natural origin, which hydrates and refreshes in a single step, relieving tightness and softening the beard.
The antiperspirant
The 48H Chamomile Antiperspirant, from our deodorants and antiperspirants collection, is for all skin types, with soft, floral notes and a vegan formula. It contains aluminum salts to limit perspiration, which we disclose. It has undergone two different types of tests: protection of up to 48 hours comes from an objective clinical test on 23 volunteers, and in a survey of 110 volunteers over 14 days, 95% said the product respects their skin.
In facial and body creams
Roman chamomile flower water appears on the ingredient list of several facial creams, including the 48H Nonstop Hydrating Rich Cream, for normal to dry skin. German chamomile is in the Nourishing Body Scrub. In these cases, we do not attribute a specific benefit to it: the results we publish are for the complete formula.
In the Sur la Lande perfume, chamomile is an olfactory note, not a skincare treatment.
How to use products with chamomile
