Color-Treated Hair: How to Care for It with the Power of Botany
Your color-treated hair deserves care that respects its nature. Discover how Yves Rocher’s botanical cosmetics protect, nourish, and add shine to it, even after bleaching.
Did you know...? At Yves Rocher, we formulate with up to 99% ingredients of natural origin. Our products do not mask damage: they work with your hair's biology to restore its natural balance.
1. Your Color-Treated Hair in the Colombian Climate
Color-treated hair in Colombia faces a unique challenge: our tropical climate. The combination of hard water, extreme humidity, intense UV rays, and temperature fluctuations causes color to fade faster and the hair fiber to require extra care.
The good news: nature has the answer. Yves Rocher’s botanical ingredients are designed to work in harmony with your hair, respecting its structure while protecting your color.
| Climate Factor |
What it Does to Your Color-Treated Hair |
What Botany Does |
| Hard water |
Limescale deposits open the cuticle, dulling the color |
Raspberry vinegar neutralizes limescale and seals the cuticle |
| Extreme humidity |
Swollen cuticles, frizz, loss of definition |
Organic jojoba seals in moisture without silicones |
| Intense UV |
Pigment oxidation, dry and brittle hair |
Natural antioxidants protect the hair fiber |
| Temperature changes |
Expansion and contraction that weaken the structure |
Botanical oils provide natural elasticity |
2. Understanding Your Type of Color Treatment
Each coloring process affects hair differently. Knowing what you did to your hair fiber is the first step to choosing the right botanical care.
2.1 Permanent Dye Without Bleaching
Ammonia or MEA gently open the cuticle to deposit pigment. The opening is medium (3-4 on a 1-10 scale). The hair primarily needs hydration and shine.
Recommended botany: Color Shine Protecting Shampoo + Raspberry Vinegar from day 3-5 post-dye.
2.2 Permanent Dye Lightening 1-2 Tones
More peroxide (20-30 volumes) opens the cuticle further. The opening is medium-high (5-6). Hair can become porous and the color fades to unwanted tones.
Recommended botany: Jojoba Repair Shampoo for the first 5 days, then transition to the Shine line.
2.3 Highlights and Balayage
Bleach in sections. The opening is high (7-8). The bleached areas are more porous than the rest of the hair, creating a need for dual care.
Recommended botany: Repair Hair Mask twice a week on bleached ends + Color Shine Conditioner on the rest.
2.4 Full Bleaching (Blonde, Platinum, Grey)
The most transformative process. The opening is very high (9-10). The hair loses proteins, elasticity, and needs reconstruction before shine.
💡 Key information: Bleached hair is not "damaged forever": it is overprocessed and needs time to regain its balance. Botany does not structurally repair what chemistry altered, but it can restore softness, manageability, and protection while it grows healthy from the root.
Recommended botany: Full Organic Jojoba Repair Line for the first 2 weeks. Only after that recovery phase, introduce the Raspberry Vinegar Rinse to seal and add shine.
2.5 Direct Fantasy Dye
Vibrant pigments on generally pre-bleached hair. The color washes out with each rinse. The key is to minimize pigment loss with gentle products.
Recommended botany: Sulfate-free shampoo (essential) + Raspberry Vinegar at most once a week to seal without fading.
3. Raspberry Vinegar and Color-Treated Hair: Important Information
The Raspberry Color Shine Vinegar is one of our star products: 2 units are sold every minute worldwide. Its power lies in its acidic pH (3.5-4.0), which closes the cuticle, neutralizes water limescale, and restores shine.
But like any active ingredient, the timing of use matters. Here we explain how to use it safely according to your type of color treatment.
Why Does pH Matter?
Healthy hair has a natural pH of 4.5-5.5. Coloring processes (especially bleaching) raise the pH to 9-11, opening the cuticle. Raspberry vinegar, with its acidic pH, helps restore the hair's natural balance.
However, if the cuticle is extremely open (freshly bleached), introducing an acid can:
- React with alkaline residues from the bleaching process
- Temporarily alter the color tone
- Remove cosmetic silicones that some stylists apply post-process to provide the appearance of softness
✨ What this means: Raspberry vinegar does not damage the hair. But if you use it immediately after an aggressive bleach, it can reveal the true state of your hair fiber — by removing cosmetic layers that mask porosity. For you, this may feel like the product is "making your hair worse," when in reality it is simply showing the truth: your hair first needs nutrition and repair, then shine.

7. Frequently Asked Questions
Does raspberry vinegar strip color from dyed hair?
No, when the color is well-sealed (more than 2 weeks post-dye). In freshly bleached hair, the acidic pH can interact with residues from the coloring process. This is why we recommend a waiting window based on your type of coloring. Patience is part of botanical care.
Why does my hair look different after using the raspberry vinegar for the first time?
Raspberry vinegar removes product buildup, lime scale residue, and cosmetic coatings that may be covering your hair fiber. If your hair is freshly processed, this can reveal its true state of porosity. It is not damage: it is information. Your hair is telling you that it needs nourishment (Jojoba) first, then shine (Raspberry).
Can I use raspberry vinegar if my hair is dyed ash blonde?
Yes, with the standard precaution of waiting 14 days post-bleaching and performing a patch test. Ash tones can be sensitive to pH changes. Dilute the vinegar 1:1 with water for the first few applications.
What if my stylist recommended not using acidic products?
Your stylist knows your specific hair and the chemicals they applied. If you had a keratin treatment, Brazilian blowout, or very aggressive bleaching, follow their instructions. Our protocols are general; your stylist knows your particular case. You can use our Jojoba Repair line (neutral pH) in the meantime.
Does raspberry vinegar help color last longer?
Absolutely, after the first 2 weeks post-dye. By closing the cuticle, it seals the pigment inside the fiber and reduces loss from washing. It is an excellent maintenance product, not an initial treatment. Using it at the right time is what makes the difference.
Can I use raspberry vinegar with henna-dyed hair?
Generally yes, and with excellent results. Henna is a plant-based dye that adheres to the cuticle differently. Raspberry vinegar usually improves its shine. If you used commercial henna with chemical additives, wait 7 days and do a patch test.
How long should I wait after a keratin or Brazilian blowout?
Minimum 2 weeks. These treatments modify the hair structure with ingredients that need time to stabilize. Acidic vinegar can accelerate the removal of the treatment. In the meantime, our Camellia Nutrition line is ideal.
Does my city's water affect my dyed hair?
Yes. Hard water deposits minerals that dull the color. Chlorine (in all cities) oxidizes the pigment. Raspberry vinegar neutralizes lime, but for freshly dyed hair, consider a shower filter as a complement for the first 2 weeks.
8. The Yves Rocher Promise: Botany that Respects

Dyed hair is not a problem to be solved: it is an expression of your personality that deserves to be cared for with the same intention with which you chose the color. Our botany is here to accompany you on that journey: repairing first, shining after, always with the respect that nature deserves.
